Catan History

The Settlers of Catan is a very popular multiplayer board game that has been around since 1995. The game was designed by Klaus Teuber (see left), who is a respected board game designer from Germany.

As the popularity of The Settlers of Catan grew in Germany and in Europe, its presence in the specialty board gaming community was being felt farther afield. To date, more than 15 million copies of the game, including add-ons, expansion packs and licensed versions, have been sold worldwide. The Settlers has also been translated in 30 different languages.

The Settlers of Catan is so endearing because it is an easy game to play, yet the strategies to dominate are varied and complex. In addition, no player will feel left out since no one can be eliminiated.
